News travels fast. Headlines, breaking alerts, and viral stories reach us in seconds, but the truth behind those stories often remains unseen. We want to uncover the deeper layers of journalism—how a story was crafted, which truths were highlighted, and which were suppressed.
Who Are We?
We are a collective of expatriate Bangladeshi journalists. After working for many years in the leading media houses of Bangladesh, we have come to various countries around the world for higher studies (Master’s and PhD). Through this long journey in journalism, we have witnessed the inner workings of the Bangladeshi media landscape firsthand—the internal politics, editorial pressures, and the game of crafting specific “narratives” in exchange for power and money.
We know why certain news gets published and why other stories are buried. This deep understanding has instilled in us a sense of responsibility. We believe it is our duty to help make our country’s media more transparent and accountable. For compelling professional and personal reasons, we are operating with anonymity at this stage. Some of us are at the end of our studies, some are in the middle, and others have just begun. At an appropriate time, we will certainly reveal our identities to the public.
Our Inspiration and Philosophy
Our work is inspired by the philosophy of whistleblowing—revealing the truth from within. Just as whistleblowers like Edward Snowden, Mark Klein, Thomas Drake, and William Binney exposed the irregularities, corruption, and conspiracies within their own organizations, we aim to bring forward the untold stories from within the media industry. They took risks for the greater public good, and we wish to walk the same path for the sake of journalistic ethics.
What is the Purpose of News Forensic?
Our mission is simple but powerful: to reveal the hidden processes and unseen decisions behind everyday news. Most people only see the final headline. News Forensic shows the entire journey that leads to it.
We investigate:
- Newsroom decisions: How are choices made about what becomes news?
- Editorial pressures: How do owners, advertisers, or political pressures influence content?
- Media biases: Which media outlets advocate for which sides?
- Narrative manipulation: How are specific stories framed to shape public opinion?
- The real experiences of journalists: What ethical and professional challenges do journalists face behind the scenes?
Because we believe understanding the news is just the beginning. Understanding how the news is made is the real power.
The Story Behind Every Story
At News Forensic, we believe every news report has two sides:
- The story the public sees.
- The story behind how that news was created.
Our work focuses on the second one. Through this, we aim to empower our readers, enabling them to read any news critically, identify hidden agendas, and find the truth in a flood of information.
News Forensic stands for transparency, clarity, and truth. We exist to light up the places where the media itself stays dark.
